Brazil’s Future MMA Loses Main Event Fighters to LFA and One Championship

Brazilian mixed martial arts promotion Future MMA, formerly Future Fighting Championships, has undergone a last minute change to the main event for their Future MMA 6 card on June 28. Originally slated to feature Edson "Panico" Marques and Gabriel "Marretinha" de Souza Bonfim, the headliners will now be Luiz Cado Simon and Wendell Giacomo in a welterweight championship bout.

Marques (9-0) and de Souza Bonfim were provided with opportunities to compete for two of the larger MMA promotions in the industry, One Championship and Legacy Fighting Alliance respectively. Marques, 30, has won his last six fights by TKO. His 21-year-old former opponent owns a 10-0 record, winning six of those bouts by submission.

Their replacements, Simon and Giacomo will be competing for the Future MMA welterweight title. The 26-year-old Simon is 13-6-1 and back in the win column after his last fight in March. Meanwhile, Giacomo is riding a six-fight winning streak.

"The LFA called 'Marretinha' to compete for the belt there and the ONE Championship offered a contract to 'Panico.' Of course, we regret the fact that we cannot watch the duel between them, but otherwise, we are happy about the course of their careers," explained Future MMA president Lucas Lutkus. "This confirms Future MMA's commitment to putting the best of them to fight each other. And it's no different with Cado Simon vs. Giacomo, who made it worthy of the title race."

Future MMA 6 will take place on June 28 at the Centro Universitario Italo Brasileiro, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
