Castillo-Gellner Greenlit for Jan. 29 Strikeforce
Mike Whitman Jan 15, 2011
A second women's matchup has been added to Strikeforce “Diaz vs.
Cyborg” on Jan. 29 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., as
Fairtex product Jenna
Castillo and Bay City Fight Club representative Charlene
Gellner will make their respective MMA debuts in a 125-pound
tilt.
The contest was announced by Castillo over Facebook on Saturday, and Sherdog.com has confirmed the bout with sources close to the event. The Castillo-Gellner fight joins a previously announced women’s duel between muay Thai standout Germaine de Randamie and Stephanie Webber on the show’s undercard. Castillo has enjoyed an impressive run as a kickboxer, though she has competed in san shou, as well as muay Thai. In Gellner, she faces a fellow Californian with a perfect amateur record.
“Diaz vs. Cyborg” will be headlined by the titular welterweight title fight between champion Nick Diaz and challenger Evangelista Santos. Also scheduled is a middleweight title scrap, as jiu-jitsu ace Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza puts his belt on the line against hard-punching Robbie Lawler in the co-main event. Additionally, 1982 Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker will make his second appearance in the Strikeforce cage, as he takes on Scott Carson in a heavyweight duel. Rounding out the main card is a light heavyweight affair pitting Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships winner Roger Gracie against UFC veteran Trevor Prangley.
