Ortiz Plans to Go Out in Style at UFC 148

Huntington Beach’s Tito Ortiz, arguably the greatest self promoter and promoter of mixed martial arts the sport has ever seen, will enter the octagon for the final time when he faces Forrest Griffin in a rubber match at UFC 148 on Saturday night at 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on pay-per-view.

The MMA pioneer will be the ninth member inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on Saturday afternoon and then fight for the final time in his 15-year career.

“I look at my career and the guys I’ve fought and the guys I’ve lost to and how close the fights were and I want to give the fans a great fight,” Ortiz, 37, said. “The last few times we fought they were split decisions both ways, so let’s finish this trilogy and see who the best fighter is. Forrest is a big name. He’s a tough guy. He doesn’t run away from fights. He stands in the pocket and he fights. Fans want to see a good fight and they are going to see a great fight between me and Forrest.”

Ortiz went old school for his fight against Griffin, setting up his training camp in Big Bear Lake at the compound boxing great Oscar De La Hoya built in the 1990s.
