Sherdog’s Top 10: One-Punch Knockouts
No. 9
Pride 8
Nov. 21, 1999 | Tokyo
Vovchanchyn was a popular figure during MMA’s formative years, and his fights rarely failed to entertain. He scored plenty of knockouts during his 66-bout career and nabbed victories over much better opponents than Bueno -- a man he was expected to defeat at Pride 8. However, this knockout stands out in the crowd.
Bueno was a bit tentative against “Ice Cold” and eventually ended up out cold. He mistakenly backed himself into a corner and tried to keep Vovchanchyn at bay, but it was no use. The Ukrainian bomber missed with his left hook but a follow-up right over the top found its mark. Once it connected, Bueno was done. He fell as stiff as a telephone pole, and Vovchanchyn leveled him with another right hand just to make sure his work was complete.
It remains for many the greatest one-punch KO in Pride Fighting Championships history. That says a lot.
