4. Recovering from the “Randleplex” to Win Moments Later


I've written about Kevin Randleman several times before, most notably on the list of Sherdog's 10 Biggest Underachievers. It says a lot that a UFC heavyweight champion who defended the title and is in the UFC Hall-of-Fame was one of the biggest underachievers ever, but that's just how jaw-droppingly talented Randleman was. And perhaps nothing showed off his exceptional mix of wrestling ability, raw strength, and athletic prowess more than when he got a body lock on Emelianenko from behind, lifted him way up over his head and then turned into him for what might be the most devastating, high-amplitude slam MMA has ever seen. And since this was Pride instead of the UFC, Randleman was free to spike Fedor directly on his head. No matter how many dozens of hundreds of times I've seen it, it never stops being awe-inspiring. Yet, far from being killed or even knocked out, Fedor somehow continued to fight, and a short while later, reversed Randleman and locked in a fight-ending kimura. Fans still hadn't picked their jaws off the floor after the monstrous suplex, rightly dubbed the “Randleplex,” and here was Fedor already calmly winning the fight.
