By The Numbers: Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman

Their score remains unsettled but only for a few more days.

Leon Edwards will defend his undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight crown and complete his trilogy with Kamaru Usman when they headline UFC 286 on Saturday at the O2 Arena in London. Their head-to-head series sits deadlocked at 1-1. Edwards enters the cage undefeated across his past 11 assignments, having compiled a 10-0 record with one no contest. He has not fought since he dethroned Usman with a dramatic head kick knockout in the fifth round of their UFC 278 rematch on Aug. 20. Usman, meanwhile, has rattled off 19 victories in 20 appearances. He took a three-round unanimous decision from Edwards in their first encounter at UFC on Fox 17 in December 2015.

As Edwards and Usman approach their third battle at 170 pounds, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

31: Years of age for Edwards, who was born on Aug. 25, 1991 in Kingston, Jamaica.

3: Edwards victories by submission, accounting for 15% of his career total (20). His methods of choice: two rear-naked chokes and one arm-triangle choke. Edwards holds seven other victories by knockout or technical knockout (35%) and 10 more by decision (50%).

100,000: Dollars in post-fight bonuses banked by Edwards across his 15 appearances in the UFC. He has been awarded “Performance of the Night” twice.

5: First-round finishes on the Edwards resume, though only one of them has taken place inside the Octagon. He punched out Seth Baczynski in eight seconds at UFC Fight Night 64 on April 11, 2015.

.860: Cumulative winning percentage between the three men—Usman, Claudio Silva and Delroy McDowell—who have beaten Edwards. They sport a combined record pf 37-6.

35: Years of age for Usman, who was born in Auchi, Nigeria, on May 11, 1987.

9: Usman wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 45% of his career total (20). His list of UFC victims: Jorge Masvidal, Gilbert Burns, Colby Covington and Sergio Moraes. Usman owns one other win by submission (5%)—he forced Hayder Hassan to surrender to an arm-triangle choke at “The Ultimate Fighter 21” Finale in 2015—and 10 more by decision (50%).

1,267: Days spent by Usman as undisputed UFC welterweight champion. He laid claim to the title with a five-round unanimous decision over Tyron Woodley at UFC 235 on March 2, 2019 and retained it on five subsequent occasions before he surrendered it to Edwards in their aforementioned rematch.

10: Knockdowns landed by Usman as a UFC welterweight, tying him with Woodley, Matt Brown, Stephen Thompson, Jingliang Li and Vicente Luque for third on the promotion’s all-time list at 170 pounds. Only Thiago Alves (13) and Jake Ellenberger (11) have been credited with more.

35: Combined victories between the two men—Edwards and Jose Caceres—who have defeated Usman. They boast a cumulative .700 winning percentage at 35-15.
