Todd Duffee has been plagued with injuries throughout his career. The owner of one of the most impressive Ultimate Fighting Championship debuts in promotional history will try to mount a thunderous comeback when he takes on fellow knockout artist Jeff Hughes at UFC Fight Night 158 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Get to know more about these two exciting heavyweights through some of their career-defining numbers.

Most active year

Hughes fought three times each in 2015 and 2016, putting together a record of 5-1 during that stretch. Duffee has not been nearly as active in his career. Although he did fight three times in 2007, his first year as a professional fighter, in the years since then he has fought twice per year at most. He also sat out 2011 and 2013 mainly because of injury, whereas Hughes has been fighting every year since he debuted in 2014.

First-round finishes

Before joining the UFC, Duffee notched four first-round stoppages. His reputation as a finisher was solidified when he knocked Tim Hague out cold in his Octagon debut. After that, however, he was starched by Mike Russow after dominating him for the first two rounds. Since that loss, he finished three more opponents in the first round for a total of eight first-round stoppages. Interestingly, he has also been on the losing end of two first-round finishes.

Hughes is quite a quick finisher himself. He started his career with three first-round finishes and later scored a sensational first-round spinning back kick knockout at an event called Caged Madness 40. His fifth first-round stoppage was powered by a fight-ending uppercut at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. Unlike Duffee, no one has ever stopped Hughes in the first stanza.

Significant strikes landed inside the Octagon

Hughes has only appeared in the Octagon once, but he’s already landed 66 out of 143 significant strikes, which makes for a 46 percent accuracy rate. Duffee, on the other hand, has fought in the UFC five times, but he’s only landed 92 out of the 258 strikes he’s thrown in the cage, which makes for a 36 percent striking accuracy rate. The relatively low striking volume is due in large part to the fact that four of his five appearances inside the Octagon did not go past the first round.

Takedowns landed in the Octagon

Neither Duffee nor Hughes is particularly keen to take opponents down, at least not according to the Octagon statistics. In fact, Duffee has not scored a takedown in any of his five UFC outings, whereas Hughes has at least scored one, albeit at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.

UFC losses

The more experienced Duffee has suffered three defeats as a professional, having been knocked out by Mike Russow, Alistair Overeem and Frank Mir. Before the loss to Russow, he was on a six-fight winning streak. Meanwhile, Hughes has experienced two setbacks in 12 outings. He was knocked out by UFC and Bellator veteran Dan Spohn at an event called Alpha One Sports - IT Fight Series 48. He also bowed to Maurice Greene in his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 146.
