Nunes, 35, has rattled off 13 wins across her past 14 outings and long ago established herself as perhaps the greatest female mixed martial artist of all-time. The Brazilian last competed at UFC 277, where she avenged a prior loss to Julianna Pena, outpointed “The Venezuelan Vixen” to a five-round unanimous decision and retook the 135-pound throne on July 30. Aldana, meanwhile, enters the cage on a modest two-fight winning streak. The 35-year-old Lobo Gym cornerstone last appeared on Sept. 10, when she brought down Macy Chiasson with an upkick to the body in the third round of their UFC 279 confrontation.

UFC 289 “Nunes vs. Aldana” also features a welterweight scrap matching Mike Malott (-210) with Adam Fugitt (+165), a featherweight affair pitting Dan Ige (-260) against Nate Landwehr (+200) and middleweight clash pairing Marc-Andre Barriault (-130) with Eryk Anders (Even). Middleweights anchor the undercard, as Nassourdine Imavov (-160) targets onetime CES MMA champion Chris Curtis (+130) at 185 pounds.
