The Dutch heavyweight posted on his Twitter account on Monday evening that he survived a “huge explosion” next to his hotel room at the Residence Inn in northeast Albuquerque, N.M.

According to a report in the Albuquerque Journal, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from a storage area at the hotel. The fire was contained without any injuries to firefighters or civilians. The cause is currently unknown.

“I heard a big boom,” Overeem told the Journal. “I thought it was nothing going on, but one of my teammates came and got me ‘we need to get out of here now.’

“There was a huge black cloud,” Overeem said of the building next door. “It was a little hectic, but I think the situation is under control now.”

Overeem, who holds his training camps at Jackson-Wink MMA, will face Fabricio Werdum in a featured heavyweight bout at UFC 213 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday. Overeem and Werdum last squared off at a Strikeforce event in June 2011, with Overeem winning a unanimous decision. “The Reem” is coming off a third-round knockout triumph over Mark Hunt at UFC 209 on March 4.

UFC 213 airs on pay-per-view beginning at 10 p.m ET/7 p.m PT and is headlined by a women’s bantamweight title tilt between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko. In the co-main event, Yoel Romero will face Robert Whittaker for the interim middleweight belt.
