Alessio to Meet Daley in MFC 19 Superfight

(PRESS RELEASE) -- As promised, the Maximum Fighting Championship is delivering on its word that John “The Natural” Alessio’s debut in the MFC would be in a fight of international interest.

Now officially added to the MFC 19: Long Time Coming lineup is a welterweight superfight pitting Alessio (24-11) against English knockout artist Paul “Semtex” Daley (18-7). The bout will lead into the main event featuring the first defence of the MFC world light heavyweight title by champion Roger Hollett (Pictures) as he takes on top-ranked challenger Emanuel Newton (Pictures).

“This is a fantastic matchup,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich of the Alessio-Daley encounter. “I have the utmost respect for both John and Paul and I believe when they square-off there is going to be an explosion.

“The MFC always works towards bringing the fans the best possible fights and when this situation presented itself there was no way we were going to miss out on the opportunity to bring the people watching in person at the River Cree Resort and Casino and live on HDNet Fights a fight of this magnitude.”

Daley has won six of his last seven fights and 13 of his 18 victories have come by way of knockout. The 24-year-old Nottingham native has stopped his opposition in five of his last six wins and three of those have come inside the first round. Daley prepares for his fights in Holland with former K-1 standouts Melvin Manhoef (Pictures) and Ernesto Hoost (Pictures).

Like Daley, fellow veteran Alessio is also on a tear having captured victories in five of his last six fights including a 45-second knockout of Gideon Ray (Pictures) and a second-round submission of Pete Spratt (Pictures). For Alessio, this bout will be in the first in Canada since 2005 and he has won six of eight fights on his home soil. The 29-year-old was born in Vancouver but now trains in Las Vegas at Randy Couture (Pictures)’s Xtreme Couture.

“I’m super-excited and really looking forward to this fight,” said Alessio. “This is very important for my career and it’s important for me to keep winning. Daley is a great opponent who is very athletic with good striking. It’s also great to return to Canada to fight in my home country.”

Both fighters already have some interesting connections to the welterweight scene in the MFC. Alessio had some interesting words about current MFC welterweight contender Ryan Ford – so much so that the two were nearly locked into a bout and may yet still collide.

As for Daley, back in July 2005 he met up with current MFC welterweight champion Pat “Bam Bam” Healy in Healy’s hometown of Portland, Oregon. Healy posted a victory when he secured a guillotine choke at 3:15 of Round 2.
