M-1 Challenge 61 Sept. 19 in Russia: Sultanakhmedov vs. Brito

(PRESS RELEASE) -- ST. PETERSBURG, Russia - M-1 Challenge 61 has been pushed back two weeks to September 19 and moved from Beijing, China to Ingushetia, Russia, promoter M-1 Global has announced.

Originally scheduled for Sept.5, the second annual M-1 Challenge show in Beijing was postponed until a date to be determined due to the 70th celebration of China's victory over Japan at the end of World War II. Authorities prohibited major events in China from Aug. 20 through Sept. 10.

Former M-1 Global middleweight champion Magomed Sultanakhmedov will return to action after a 4 1/2-year hiatus to headline M-1 Challenge 61 in Ingushetia against Brazilian veteran Marcelo Brito.

The 31-year-old Sultanakhmedov (18-5-0, 12 KO/TKO, 0 SUB), fighting out of Tula, Russia, captured the vacant M-1 Global middleweight title March 25, 2011, stopping his American challenger Tyson Jeffries in the second round at M-1 Challenge 24.

A former World Kickboxing and Universal Karate champion, Sultanakhmedov is a feared striker who hasn't fought in an MMA event since he captured the M-1 Global crown more than four years ago.

Brito (13-7-0, 2 KO/TKO. 5 SUB), 37, last fought this past June in a non-stop fight with Murad Abdulaev, losing a five-round decision for the vacant M-1 Challenge welterweight title at M-1 Challenge 58: Battle of the Mountains 4.

M-1 Challenge 61 will be streamed live from Ingushetia, Russia in high definition on www.M1Global.TV. Viewers will be able to watch the preliminary fights and main card by logging on to register at www.M1Global.TV. Fans may watch all of the action on their computers, as well as on Android and Apple smart phones and tablets.

Fights and fighters are subject to challenge. Additional bouts will soon be announced.

Fight Network will air M-1 Challenge 61 live on Cablevision's Optimum TV, Grande Communications, Shentel Cable, Suddenlink Communications and Armstrong Cable in the U.S., as well as nationwide in Canada, Roku devices across North America, and globally in more than 30 countries throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
