Mark Striegl, Do Gyum Lee Clash Headlines a Night of URCC Championship Fights

With stints at One Championship and Pacific Xtreme Combat, Filipino-American Mark Striegl has a world of experience over current Universal Reality Combat Championships featherweight king, Do Gyum Lee. Striegl is expected to capitalize on this advantage when he challenges the South Korean at URCC Global, the promotion’s new event series.

It’s a fight fans have been eyeing since Striegl’s successful promotional return in August 2017, making quick work of former bantamweight titleholder, Andrew Benibe. Later that year, he decisioned Ki Sung Kim, Lee’s teammate from BK Wang Ho. It was during the post-fight interview that the two came face to face for the first time as Lee climbed the stage to express his displeasure over Striegl’s performance.

“The one you fought today is just a debuting opponent and a sparring partner, and you couldn’t even dominate the fight,” Lee said through his translator. Then during Lee’s most recent title defense, it was Striegl’s turn to step in.

The full-fledged animosity was highlighted by an intense staredown that capped their media presentation a few days ago. Striegl, once named by Yahoo Sports as one of the hottest prospects in Asian MMA, maintains his nemesis has never fought anyone like him, to which his coach agrees. Striegl now works with Alliance MMA’s George Castro, who has also trained the likes of Dominick Cruz, Jeremy Stephens, Angela Hill and Brandon Vera.

“I see Mark being too much for his opponent. We trained very hard for this fight. If you’ve seen any of our posts about training, you will see that he went through hell in this camp to be the best Mark anyone has seen,” Said Castro. “The fans can expect a hard, fast and very high pace from Mark until he is just too much for the current champ.”

For his part, Striegl as always is a picture of confidence: “My preparation has been great. I have been working very hard for this fight with my coach, George Castro, and my team members at Fist MMA. I am well-prepared.”

Dubbed URCC Global: Colossal, the event will take place on Sept. 29 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines.
