5 Things You Might Not Know About Mike Perry

A rising star due to his highlight-reel striking, Mike Perry is a fighter to watch whenever he steps into the Octagon. His fight on the UFC on Fox 28 card is no exception, as Perry is matched up against a fellow striking specialist in Max Griffin to open the bill’s main card.

While Perry is known for his striking and exciting finishes that have earned him multiple performance bonuses, here are five things you might not know about “Platinum.”

1. 0-1 professional boxing record

Before committing to a mixed martial arts career, Perry tried his hand at an extremely brief professional boxing career. Perry made just one appearance in 2015, losing to Kenneth McNeil via a fourth-round TKO in a fight held in Pensacola, Florida.

2. Made his UFC debut on pay-per-view at UFC 202

Perry was given an opportunity to showcase his skills on the big stage in his Octagon debut. Instead of the typical prelim or Fight Night debut, Perry was thrust onto the UFC 202 main card for his first match in the major leagues. Perry delivered on the opportunity with a first round TKO of Hyun Gyu Lim to arrive on the UFC scene in style.

3. Amateur muay Thai champion in Florida

Born in Flint, Michigan, Perry was raised in Florida and began his martial arts journey in the sunshine state. Perry started training at the young age of 11 and was a state champion in Florida as an amateur muay Thai practitioner, developing the striking skills he is known for today as a youth.

4. No MMA knockout or submission losses; zero decision victories

Perry has just two losses in his MMA career, both coming in the UFC. Perry’s impeccable chin and determination has been the catalyst for his winning ways inside the octagon as he has yet to suffer a TKO or submission as a professional. Perry lost to Alan Jouban and Santiago Ponzinibbio for his two UFC losses to date. Perry also has zero decision victories to his name as it has been knockout or bust throughout his career for the talented and dangerous striker.

5. Seven knockdowns in seven UFC appearances

Perry is known for his powerful and skilled striking. Eighth on the welterweight knockdowns list, Perry is averaging one knockdown per fight at this stage in his tenure. With seven knockdowns in seven fights, Perry is one of the UFC’s most feared fighters in the stand-up game at the moment and should see his name skyrocket up the all-time rankings for knockdowns at welterweight.
