Joselyne Edwards (10-4, 1-2 UFC) vs. Ramona Pascual (6-3, 0-1 UFC)

ODDS: Edwards (-170), Pascual (+150)

This could be a mess, but perhaps it will either provide some entertainment or see one of these two fighters turn a corner. Edwards is still just 26 years old, but the Panamanian has been a frustrating prospect to track thus far. An obvious standout athlete, “La Pantera” impressed in a decision win over Yanan Wu in her late-notice UFC debut in January 2021. Edwards maintained her dangerous dynamism in every phase of the fight over 15 minutes. However, a regional loss to Sarah Alpar in 2018 basically portended the rest of her UFC career thus far. Despite Edwards’ athletic advantages, Karol Rosa and Jessica-Rose Clark were each able to outwrestle her and win handily without much of an issue. With those losses, Edwards has lost a lot of her prospect shine, but she gets an opportunity at a rebound win here to reclaim some hype against Pascual. Hong Kong’s Pascual continues her run at featherweight after a few fights at 135 pounds, including a late-notice debut loss to Josiane Nunes in February. That was also Pascual’s first real test against a notable level of opposition, and it was a mixed bag. She did not get much of anything done, but she at least showed an impressive baseline of durability that should help her work out the kinks for as long as she can stay on the UFC roster. That does make this fight interesting, as it may afford Pascual some time to figure things out; if she can hang around, she has at least shown the ability to swamp some physically overmatched opponents with her grappling in the past. That could be enough to clear what appears to be a worrisomely low bar to control Edwards. With that said, the bet is that Edwards can remain slippery enough and land enough offense to stay ahead on the scorecards in an ugly affair. The pick is Edwards via decision.
