Dustin Poirier has few equals as one of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s true action heroes.

The American Top Team ace will complete his trilogy with Max Holloway when they tangle over the BMF title in the UFC 318 headliner on July 19 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Poirier defeated the Hawaiian in each of their two previous meetings, as he tapped the former featherweight champion with a triangle armbar at UFC 143 in 2012 and outpointed him to a five-round unanimous decision in their 2019 rematch at UFC 236. “The Diamond” marches toward their third encounter with wins in five of his past eight bouts. Poirier last suited up at UFC 302, where he surrendered to fifth-round brabo choke from Islam Makhachev in a failed bid to capture the undisputed lightweight crown on June 1.

As Poirier eyes his forthcoming showdown with Holloway in The Big Easy, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied him to this point:

36: Years of age for Poirier, who was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, on Jan. 19, 1989. “Rain Man,” “Twins,” “Beaches,” “The Accidental Tourist” and “Working Girl” were the Top 5 movies at the domestic box office at the time.

1,752: Significant strikes landed by Poirier as a member of the UFC roster, placing him eighth on the promotion’s all-time list. Only Holloway (3,457), Sean Strickland (2,197), Angela Hill (2,122), Bobby Green (1,873), Rafael dos Anjos (1,822), Frankie Edgar (1,801) and Joanna Jedrzejczyk (1,754) have connected with more.

16: Consecutive calendar years in which Poirier has fought at least once. He went 5-0 in 2009, 3-1 in 2010, 3-0 in 2011, 2-1 in 2012, 2-1 in 2013, 1-1 in 2014, 2-0 in 2015, 2-1 in 2016, 2-0 with one no contest in 2017, 2-0 in 2018, 1-1 in 2019, 1-0 in 2020, 2-1 in 2021, 1-0 in 2022, 0-1 in 2023 and 1-1 in 2024.

51: Seconds needed for Poirier to put away Ronnie Lis with an armbar under the USA Mixed Martial Arts banner on Nov. 13, 2009. More than 15 years later, it remains his fastest finish to date and one of three sub-minute stoppages on his resume.
