By The Numbers: Paddy Pimblett vs. Rodrigo Vargas



The Ultimate Fighting Championship sees a potential star in Paddy Pimblett. Time will tell whether or not he can live up to those expectations.

“The Baddy” will step inside the Octagon for the second time when he faces Rodrigo Vargas in a UFC Fight Night 204 lightweight showcase on Saturday at the O2 Arena in London. Pimblett has rattled off three consecutive victories, all of them first-round finishes. He last competed on Sept. 4, when he wiped out Luigi Vendramini with punches a little more than four minutes into their UFC Fight Night 191 pairing. Vargas, meanwhile, has lost two of his past three bouts. The Combate Global veteran last appeared at UFC 261, where he outpointed Zhu Rong across three rounds on April 24.

As Pimblett and Vargas approach their three-round battle at 155 pounds, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

27: Years of age for Pimblett, who was born in Liverpool, England, on Jan. 3, 1995.

7: Pimblett victories by submission, accounting for 41% of his career total (17). His methods of choice: four rear-naked chokes, two flying triangle chokes and one triangle armbar. Pimblett owns six other victories by decision and four more by decision.

203: Days spent by Pimblett as the undisputed Cage Warriors Fighting Championship featherweight titleholder. He captured the company’s 145-pound crown with a first-round technical knockout of Johnny Frachey at CWFC 78 on Sept. 10, 2016, retained it with a five-round unanimous decision over Julian Erosa at CWFC “Unplugged” on Nov. 12, 2016 and relinquished it in a five-round unanimous decision loss to Nad Narimani at CWFC 82 on April 1, 2017.

5: Organizations in which Pimblett has competed as a mixed martial artist. He has gone 11-3 in Cage Warriors, 2-0 in Olympian MMA Championships, 2-0 in Full Contact Contender, 1-0 in the UFC and 1-0 in Cage Contender.

.783: Cumulative winning percentage between the three men—Narimani, Soren Bak and Cameron Else—who have beaten Pimblett. They boast a combined record of 36-10.

36: Years of age for Vargas, who was born on Aug. 15, 1985 in Mexico City.

7: Vargas wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 58% of his career total (12). His list of victims includes Mike de la Torre, Alfredo Morales and Jordan Williams. Vargas holds three other wins by submission and two more by decision.

11: Seconds needed for Vargas to punch out Alejandro Saaveda at an Xtreme Kombat show on Jan. 19, 2012. Having occurred more than a decade ago, it remains the fastest finish of his 16-fight career.

3: Countries in which Vargas has plied his MMA trade. He has gone 9-1 in his native Mexico, 3-2 in the United States and 0-1 in Uruguay.
