Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will be back in action on Sept. 7. He will look to unify the 155-pound belts by beating interim titleholder Dustin Poirier. Before they collide in Abu Dhabi at UFC 242, here are some numbers that define the career of the tough Dagestani fighter.

70: Significant strikes landed on Conor McGregor in the four rounds they shared in the Octagon. He also took the Irishman down three times and passed his guard five times. Nurmagomedov only had one submission attempt, a neck crank, and that was enough to end the fight.

9: Wins by submission. With his triumph over McGregor, “The Eagle” has submitted a total of nine opponents. His list of victims also include Michael Johnson, Kamal Shalorus, Vadim Sandulskiy, Hamiz Mamedov, Kadzhik Abadzhyan, Said Khalilov, Shahbulat Shamhalaev and Vusal Bayramov. Four of those finishes were by triangle choke.

8: Wins by knockout. Nurmagomedov has eight wins by KO or TKO, and these were against Darrell Horcher, Thiago Tavares, Arymarcel Santos, Ashot Shahinyan, Alexander Agafonov, Vitaliy Ostrovskiy, Eldar Eldarov and Said Akhmed.

2: Times he headlined a UFC card. Before his record-setting showdown with McGregor, Nurmagomedov appeared in the main event against Al Iaquinta in their lightweight title fight at UFC 223. “The Eagle” clobbered the American in five rounds to take a lopsided decision win and become the new champion at 155 pounds. His upcoming bout with Poirier will only be the third time he will grace a UFC main event.

45: Percent takedown accuracy. Nurmagomedov has appeared in the Octagon 11 times, displaying his unparalleled grappling skills on just about each occasion. Of his 116 takedown attempts in total, 49 have been successful.

50: Percent striking accuracy. “The Eagle” notably has a higher accuracy in striking than in takedowns, having landed 657 out of the 1323 significant strikes he has attempted.

1: Post-fight bonus. As exciting a fighter he is to watch, Nurmagomedov has only earned a post-fight bonus once in his UFC career. That was against Edson Barboza at UFC 219, where he dominated the elite striker in three rounds to take the unanimous decision victory.

11: Years as a professional mixed martial arts fighter. Nurmagomedov made his debut against Vusal Bayramov on Sept. 13, 2008 in an event called CSFU - Champions League. He won the bout via triangle choke.

7: Years in the UFC. He debuted on Jan. 21, 2012 opposite Kamal Shalorus at UFC on FX 1. The fight ended via rear-naked choke, with the Dagestani getting the job done in the third round.

11: First-round finishes. Ten of those came before he entered the Octagon. In the UFC, his lone victim was Tavares, whom he knocked out at UFC on FX 7.

2: Weight divisions in which he has fought in. The current UFC lightweight king also fought at welterweight, although his appearances in that weight class came outside the Octagon. 30: Years of age. Nurmagomedov was born on Sept. 20, 1988 in Sildi, Tsumadinsky District, in Russia. He currently fights out of Fightspirit Team and the American Kickboxing Academy. Advertisement
