By the Numbers: UFC 204

Michael Bisping got his revenge, but it didn’t come easy.

“The Count” held off a still-dangerous Dan Henderson in their rematch at UFC 204 in Manchester on Saturday night, winning a five-round decision to retain his middleweight crown. Bisping survived harrowing knockdowns in the first and second frames to avenge a brutal KO loss to his rival at UFC 100 more than seven years ago.

After the defeat, Henderson confirmed that he will call it a career after 47 professional fights. The compelling nature of the rematch proved that sometimes traditional matchmaking isn’t the only way to go. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC 204, with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com.

20: UFC wins for Bisping, moving him past Georges St. Pierre and into sole possession of first place all-time in the promotion.

5:48:40: Total fight time for Bisping, No. 2 all-time behind only Frankie Edgar (6:02:49) after “The Count” spent a full 25 minutes in the Octagon with Henderson on Saturday night.

119: Significant strikes landed by Bisping in victory, the fifth time he has topped the century mark in the Octagon. That is a UFC record. By comparison, Henderson landed 81 significant strikes.

1,533: Career significant strikes landed by Bisping in UFC competition, No. 1 among all fighters in the promotion. Edgar is second with 1,266.

1,879: Total strikes landed by Bisping in UFC competition. The Englishman landed 130 total strikes at UFC 204 to surpass Chris Leben (1,791) and Edgar (1,871) on the promotion’s all-time list. Only Nate Diaz (1,926), Jon Fitch (2,185) and Georges St. Pierre (2,523) have landed more.

7,055: Days since Henderson made his professional debut with a pair of first-round stoppage victories against Eric Smith and Crezio de Souza in Brazil on June 15, 1997.

1: Takedown landed in four attempts by Henderson, his first takedown landed in UFC competition since a February 2013 loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC 157. The Californian had not landed a single takedown in his previous eight fights.

49: Significant strikes by which Gegard Mousasi outlanded Vitor Belfort in their middleweight co-headlining encounter. Mousasi won via TKO 2:43 into the second stanza.

1-3: Belfort’s record since his TRT-fueled knockout run through Luke Rockhold, Bisping and Henderson in 2013.

90: Combined significant strikes by which Ovince St. Preux has been outlanded in his last three UFC defeats, losses to Jimi Manuwa (-19), Jon Jones (-48) and Glover Teixeiera (-23).

5: Submission triumphs in UFC competition for Stefan Struve, who tapped out Daniel Omielanczuk with a brabo choke 1:41 into the second round of their heavyweight encounter. That figure is the second most in the history of the division. Only Frank Mir, with eight submission victories, has more.

10: Finishes in UFC competition for Struve, tying him with Cain Velasquez for fourth most all-time among heavyweights. Mir is first with 13 finishes, while Andrei Arlovski and Gabriel Gonzaga are tied for second with 11 apiece.

25: Professional fights without being finished for Omielanczuk, who finally succumbed inside the distance against Struve in his 26th outing on Saturday. That streak included six previous bouts in the UFC.

4: Consecutive triumphs for Mirsad Bektic at featherweight, the fourth-longest active streak in the division behind Yair Rodriguez (five), Conor McGregor (seven) and Max Holloway (eight). Bektic submitted short-notice foe Russell Doane with a rear-naked choke 4:22 into the opening round of their bout.

26: Significant strikes landed in 39 attempts by Iuri Alcantara in his first-round submission victory over Brad Pickett at bantamweight. That 66 percent success rate included one knockdown via spinning elbow. Pickett, meanwhile, landed just one of three significant strike attempts.

1-4: Record for Pickett in his last five bouts. After his win over Francisco Rivera in February, “One Punch” admitted that he had been contemplating retirement prior to the bout.

9: Takedowns landed by Albert Tumenov opponents in his three Octagon defeats. “Einstein” hasn’t allowed a single takedown in his five victories. Leon Edwards landed three of 10 takedown attempts before submitting Tumenov via rear-naked choke in the third round.

30: Significant strikes by which Octagon newcomer Marc Diakiese outlanded Lukasz Sajewski in the decisive second frame of their lightweight tilt. “Wookie” earned a stoppage 4:40 into the period.

4: Knockdowns landed in two UFC appearances for Mike Perry. After dropping Hyun Gyu Lim three times in his debut, “Platinum” floored Danny Roberts in the third stanza en route to a knockout victory 4:40 into the period.

171: Combined significant strikes landed by Perry (90) and Roberts (81) in the welterweight slugfest.

9: KO/TKO victories in nine professional appearances for Perry, who went to the third round for the first time in his career against Roberts.

7: Finishes that occurred outside the first round at UFC 204, tying it with UFC Fight Night 42, UFC 185 and UFC Fight Night 80 for the most such finishes in a single event.
