Even at 40 years old, Glover Teixeira has plenty left in the tank.

Teixeira weathered an early storm from Anthony Smith, then rallied to dominate the second half of their bout to earn a fifth-round TKO victory in the UFC Fight Night 171 headliner at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday night. Down the stretch of what turned into a brutal beating, Smith may have been too tough for his own good. Teixeira, meanwhile, could be primed for a second shot at UFC gold.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 171, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

1:04: Time of Teixeira’s technical knockout victory in Round 5, making it the second-latest finish in UFC light heavyweight history. Interestingly enough, the latest came at UFC Fight Night 109 in May 2017, when Alexander Gustafsson knocked out Teixeira 1:07 into the final stanza of their headlining encounter.

4: Consecutive victories for Teixeira, tying him with Jon Jones, Magomed Ankalaev and Ryan Spann for the longest active winning streak in the UFC at 205 pounds.

14: Career light heavyweight victories in UFC competition for Teixeira, No. 3 all-time behind Jones (20) and Ryan Bader (15). Rashad Evans and Chuck Liddell are tied for fourth with 13 wins apiece.

138: Significant strikes landed by Teixeira. By comparison, Smith landed 86. Teixiera also held a 202-to-87 advantage in total strikes landed.

73: Combined significant strikes landed by Smith in Rounds 1 and 2. Teixeira landed 44 during that time.

43: Significant strikes landed by Teixeira in Round 3, when the tide turned significantly in his favor. Smith landed just one significant strike in that frame. The Brazilian also outlanded Smith 51-12 over the final two frames before the bout was halted.

63: Significant ground strikes for Teixeira; Smith failed to land a single significant strike on the canvas.

3,623: Days since Ben Rothwell last won a decision in UFC competition. The Kenosha, Wisconsin, native edged Ovince St. Preux via split decision in Wednesday’s co-main event, ending a streak of four consecutive defeats in bouts that go the distance. Rothwell hadn’t won a decision in the Octagon since he outpointed Gilbert Yvel at UFC 115 on June 12, 2010.

3: Consecutive KO/TKO victories for Drew Dober, who dispatched Alexander Hernandez with punches 4:25 into the second stanza of their lightweight duel. The 31-year-old Elevation Fight Team product also owns first-round finishes of Nasrat Haqparast and Marco Polo Reyes during his current run.

6-1: Record for Dober since 2017. His lone defeat during that period came via armbar against Beneil Dariush in May 2019. Dober began his Octagon tenure with just one victory in his first five appearances.

7: Takedowns landed in 11 attempts by Ricky Simon in a split-decision triumph against Ray Borg at bantamweight. Simon landed four of five attempts in Round 1, one of three in Round 2 and two of three in Round 3. The Gracie Barra Portland member has landed 26 takedowns in six Octagon appearances. Simon also held a 93-to-53 advantage in total strikes and a 67-to-47 edge in significant strikes landed.

16: Takedowns landed by Borg during a modest two-bout winning streak prior to facing Simon. The former flyweight title challenger failed on both of his attempts against the more powerful Simon at UFC Fight Night 171.

9: Bouts that have gone the distance in Andrei Arlovski’s last 10 Octagon appearances. “The Pit Bull” went to the judges once again on Wednesday night, taking a unanimous decision triumph over 2018 Professional Fighters League champion Philipe Lins. The only person to finish the Belarusian during that time was Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 244.

18: Career wins for Arlovski, most in the history of the UFC’s heavyweight division. Frank Mir is second with 16 triumphs, and Junior dos Santos is No. 3 with 15.

7: Decision triumphs for Arlovski, the most of any heavyweight. Dos Santos and Jared Rosholt are both tied for second with five.

4:48:42: Total Octagon time for Arlovski after spending 15 minutes in the cage with Lins. That extended his lead in UFC fight time at heavyweight over No. 2 dos Santos, who has logged 3:50:40 during his promotional tenure.

21: Significant leg strikes landed by Arlovski. By comparison, Lins landed just eight. Overall, Arlovski held a 50-to-41 edge in significant strikes landed.

27: Significant strikes landed by Michael Johnson in second-round submission loss to Thiago Moises at lightweight. “The Menace” tapped 25 seconds into Round 2, at which point Moises had landed just one significant strike in the contest.

2-6: Record for Johnson since his surprising first-round knockout of Dustin Poirier at UFC Fight Night 94 in September 2016. The Hard Knocks 365 representative has been finished in five of those six defeats.

85: Significant strikes landed by Sijara Eubanks in a three-round verdict over Sarah Moras at bantamweight. That’s a UFC best for Eubanks, who improved to 3-2 in the promotion. By comparison, Moras landed 44 significant strikes.

33: Significant strike deficit for Brian Kelleher in his second-round knockout win over the previously undefeated Hunter Azure, the fourth-largest statistical comeback in UFC featherweight history. Kelleher increased his significant striking accuracy from 20 percent in Round 1 to 38 percent in Round 2.

2: Standing elbow KO/TKO victories in UFC competition for Chase Sherman, who put away Octagon debutante Isaac Villanueva with the maneuver 49 seconds into Round 2 of their preliminary tilt. Sherman ties Travis Browne and Alan Jouban for the most standing-elbow knockouts in UFC history. “The Vanilla Gorilla” also knocked out Rashad Coulter with an elbow at UFC 211. Advertisement
