Conor McGregor Vents on ‘Inbred’ Islam Makhachev Staph Infection Speculation

Conor McGregor will seemingly never get over his rivalry with Dagestani fighters, judging by his recent dig at Islam Makhachev.

Makhachev is scheduled to defend his lightweight strap against Dustin Poirier (30-8) in the UFC 302 main event Saturday. In a recent picture of both fighters sporting the new 3Eight and 5Eight gloves, hawk-eyed fans spotted a mark on Makhachev’s leg, sparking off speculation of a potential staph infection. As of now, there is no confirmation whether Makhachev really has staph and its possible implications on the fight.

McGregor didn’t miss the opportunity to slam Makhachev and his team on social media. However, “Notorious” also predicted that the Dagestani will submit Poirier in the first round regardless.

“Staph again. This inbred however lives with Staph,” McGregor said on X, formerly known as Twitter in now deleted posts. “This team is infested, make no mistake. Scruff balls. Whatever ya’s are into, I suppose. He still subs Dustin in the 1st.”

“Yous absolute scruffy fuc*s I’m sick of yous. Wash your fucking self! Wash your clothes! Wash your mats! And do it fuc*ing everyday you scruffy cu*ts. 🤢”

McGregor’s longstanding rivalry with the Dagestani contingent started in the lead-up to his UFC 229 title fight against Makhachev’s teammate and mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov. Upon hearing of an altercation between Nurmagomedov and McGregor’s former teammate Artem Lobov at UFC 223 media day, the Irishman flew down to New York and infamously threw a dolly at a bus containing “Eagle,” along with several other fighters.

Tensions ran high at UFC 229 where Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor via fourth-round submission and immediately proceeded to jump the cage to attack the Irishman’s teammate Dillon Danis. Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov’s teammates Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tukhugov were also suspended for jumping inside the cage to attack McGregor. Things have since been sore between the two camps, with McGregor taking digs at the now-retired Nurmagomedov in some of his random tweeting sprees.
