Glover Teixeira: ‘I’ve Got to Change Some Stuff to Get Another Chance in UFC’

Glover Teixeira didn’t look like a Top 10 light heavyweight at UFC Fight Night 134.

The 38-year-old Brazilian was taken down seven times by Corey Anderson en route to losing a clear-cut unanimous decision in this past Sunday’s co-main event in Hamburg, Germany. Teixiera has now lost three of his last five Octagon appearances, but this one might have been his most disappointing effort in several years. Teixeira was originally slated to face Ilir Latifi before Anderson stepped in as an injury replacement.

“Congratulations to Corey, he took the fight short notice, but I’ve got to sit back and see what’s going on. It’s a fight that I am very, very disappointed in,” Teixeira said on Fox Sports 1. “I can’t fight like that. I was feeling great. Last time I fought like that and somebody just dominated was by Phil Davis [at UFC 179 in October 2014]. But for Phil Davis I have excuses. My weight cut was very bad. This, I have no excuses. I can’t be fighting like this.”

Teixeira, who turns 39 in October, went on a three-fight winning streak following the aforementioned defeat against Davis. After looking rejuvenated in a first-round stoppage of Misha Cirkunov in December, it’s back to the drawing board for the former 205-pound title challenger.

“I have to sit back and see what’s going on,” Teixeira said. “I need to have another chance in UFC. I’ve got to change some stuff to get another chance in UFC, have another chance in the fight game. If I keep fighting like that — I can’t fight like that anymore. That was a bad fight, a really bad fight.”

Teixeira is 10-5 in the UFC, with wins over the likes of Rashad Evans, Ovince St. Preux, Ryan Bader and Quinton Jackson. He owns a 27-7 professional mark overall.
